MacGregor secures EUR 20 million RoRo equipment deal with Grimaldi Group

MacGregor secures EUR 20 million RoRo equipment deal with Grimaldi Group

(IN BRIEF) Cargotec’s MacGregor has received an order valued at over EUR 20 million for comprehensive RoRo equipment packages for five new Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC) vessels to be built by China Merchant Heavy Industries for Grimaldi Group. This deal increases MacGregor’s supply of RoRo equipment to Grimaldi’s new PCTC vessels from five to ten. The vessels, with a loading capacity of over 9,000 CEU, are designed to transport electric vehicles and have received the Ammonia Ready class notation by Rina, allowing them to be converted to use ammonia as marine fuel. Other technical innovations, such as mega lithium batteries, solar panels, and shore connections, aim to reduce the carbon footprint, and the vessels will achieve Zero Emission in Port®. MacGregor’s comprehensive scope of supply includes the design, delivery, and installation support of RoRo and car deck equipment for all five vessels. The shipowner is scheduled to receive the vessels between the third quarter of 2024 and the third quarter of 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 5-Apr-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — MacGregor, the leader in intelligent maritime cargo and load handling part of Cargotec, announces that it has secured a substantial repeat order valued at more than EUR 20 million for RoRo equipment packages to be installed in five new Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC) vessels to be built by China Merchant Heavy Industries for Grimaldi Group. With this deal, MacGregor’s supply of RoRo equipment to Grimaldi’s new PCTC vessels will increase from five to ten.

The orders were included in Cargotec’s orders received for the first quarter of 2023. The shipowner is scheduled to receive the vessels between the third quarter of 2024 and the third quarter of 2026.

MacGregor’s comprehensive scope of supply will cover the design, delivery, and installation support of RoRo and car deck equipment for all five vessels. The equipment includes quarter stern ramps, internal ramps, covers and doors, as well as liftable and electrically hoisted car decks, which are designed for multi-purpose use with high flexibility.

With a loading capacity of over 9,000 CEU, the vessels are specifically designed to transport electric vehicles and have been awarded the Ammonia Ready class notation by Rina, which certifies that the ships are built to be converted to use ammonia as marine fuel. Furthermore, the vessels will feature mega lithium batteries, solar panels, and shore connections, allowing them to achieve Zero Emission in Port®. Technical innovations such as the air lubrication system, innovative propulsion, and optimized hull design aim to reduce the carbon footprint.

“With our recent orders for the construction of new PCTC vessels, our Group has reaffirmed its commitment to its customers, especially the world’s leading car manufacturers who continue to reward us with their trust. In this way, we will continue to live up to their high expectations and meet their evolving needs, with our offer of increasingly efficient and environmentally sustainable shipping solutions”, stated Emanuele Grimaldi, managing director of the Grimaldi Group.

“I’m proud to see shipowner’s and shipyard’s continued strong trust in the MacGregor brand and our long experience and great track-record with RoRo solutions. We very much value the solid relationship that we have with both China Merchant Heavy Industries and Grimaldi Group. MacGregor supported Grimaldi already in the planning stage by finding cost savings and giving technical guidance for optimised cargo flow. We are extremely committed to maintaining this trust in future,” says Magnus Sjöberg, Senior Vice President, Merchant Solutions, MacGregor.
