BMT to provide engineering services for the Pengarang Deepwater Terminals development in Johor, Malaysia

Teddington, Middlesex, U.K., 19-Dec-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — BMT has been appointed by a major international EPC contractor to provide engineering services for the Pengarang Deepwater Terminals development, a major petrochemical and petroleum terminal in Johor, Malaysia.

Pengerang Deepwater Terminals has the potential to become a major downstream oil and gas hub in the region. Phase 3 of the development, launched by Dialog Group Bhd together with the Johor state government in an initial RM2.5 billion investment, will occupy 300 acres of land alongside Phase 2. It will comprise common tankage facilities and dedicated deep-water marine facilities, and the development of petroleum and petrochemicals storage terminals for medium and long term customers.

The terminal is being developed in phases, with an immediate focus on 75 hectares of land reclamation, 1.6 km of approach trestle and 4 berths. When completed, the terminal will consist of 120 hectares of land reclamation, 1.6 km of approach trestle to reach water sufficiently deep to accommodate VLCC-size vessels and 16 berths to handle a wide range of petrochemical, petroleum and LPG vessels.

Supporting Phase 3 of the development, BMT is working with the contractor and the developer to help with layout planning, including dredging layout. We provide technical support during construction and help with authority submissions and approvals. We also provide specialist studies, including sedimentation, desktop navigation simulations and mooring analysis. We are involved in full mission ship-handling simulations and provide assessment of requirements for navigation aids. Finally, BMT also helps with basic and detailed engineering design and provides advice on oil spill response preparedness.
