PARIS, 21-10-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom, working as part of a consortium with Bombardier Transport and AREVA TA, will be supplying STIF (the Ile-de-France Transport Authority) and RATP (the Paris-based public transport operator) with 12 new MF01 metro sets for lines 2 (Porte-Dauphine-Nation), 5 (Place d’Italie-Bobigny) and 9 (Pont de Sèvres-Mairie de Montreuil) of the Paris metro network. The project is worth around 75 million Euros. This is an exercise of options on a contract signed in 2001. The order covers the design studies, development and manufacturing of train sets for which deliveries are planned until 2016. This exercising of existing options is part of the RATP’s general policy aimed at renewing its metro trains and improving its services.
The next-generation MF01 metro is a major step forward in terms of quality, providing improved levels of passenger safety and comfort. CCTV (closed-circuit television) is available from the driver’s cab and the passengers benefit from air conditioning thanks to a chilled ventilation installation.
The MF01 is fully accessible to all thanks to its wide corridors and circulation spaces, making passenger movement more fluid and reducing the time spent in each station. Large windows and lively interior colour schemes improve luminosity and give a sense of space. Reduced noise levels and vibrations within each car have been achieved through the use of ONIX drive systems, improving acoustic comfort.
The MF01 consumes 30% less energy than a traditional train thanks to improvements in the efficiency of the drive train and highly effective energy recovery systems linked to the train’s electric brakes.
Alstom has overall responsibility for the project and for the completion of the series working from its Metro Centre of Excellence in Valenciennes-Petite Forêt. Alstom provides the various components and sub-assemblies making up the Energy Production System and the Drive & Braking Systems, manufactured in Alstom’s plants in Tarbes, Ornans and Villeurbanne. The company is also responsible for integrating these elements, as well as those supplied by other members of the consortium and their suppliers, on its Valenciennes site. Finally, Alstom is responsible for fitting out the cars, assembling the train sets and carrying out trials prior to delivery to the RATP.
