Barco supports breast imaging workshops to aid training of 1,000+ radiologists worldwide

Barco’s leading-edge mammography displays and Conference CloneView elevate hands-on workshops designed to help physicians diagnose breast cancer at its earliest stages

Duluth, Ga., USA, 30-11-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — Healthcare imaging specialist Barco is continuing to grow its support of breast imaging education, supplying its latest mammography display systems, image projection software tool and technical support to assist in the delivery of more than 60 hands-on mammography education programs in over 20 countries worldwide. These workshops represent a robust combination of excellent teaching and best-in-class diagnostic imaging technologies. In addition, it reflects Barco’s partnership approach and commitment to breast imaging education.

Working with several industry-leading healthcare partners, Barco has supported a diverse curriculum of didactic sessions, hands-on training and case-based discussions. Barco has also contributed to individual hands-on workshops, providing more than 25 dual-head display stations per workshop comprised of Barco Mammo Tomosynthesis 5MP displays, Coronis 5MP Mammo displays and the new Conference CloneView software tool for large-format image projection.

Early detection key to successful treatment
“Early detection is vital. Considering that one million people are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, anything we can do to improve radiologists’ ability to discern subtle anomalies at the earliest stage of cancer increases the chances for successful treatment,” comments Laszlo Tabar, MD, FACR (Hon) Course Director Professor Emeritus of Radiology. “My hands-on courses are specifically designed to help radiologists to develop skills that will ultimately lead to fewer call-backs, and enable them to be more confident in reading a large number of mammograms. Their ability to report safely and at a higher level of quality depends upon having the very best medical displays. The reliability, excellent image clarity and consistency of the Barco displays, under any lighting conditions, make them ideal for our workshops. Barco displays were our first and only choice.”

Brightness and high contrast reveal subtlest anomalies
Barco’s Mammo Tomosynthesis 5MP display provides up to four times the brightness of any other medical display in the world, featuring image-enhancing capabilities that present crystal clear images without disturbing screen noise, offering improved visibility of differences in tissue density. The Coronis 5MP Mammo provides precise, accurate grayscale images with superior resolution, high contrast and perfect geometry. Innovative technology, such as ‘Per Pixel Uniformity’, ensures pixel-perfect images, without disturbing screen-noise, which can hide subtle details.

Projection tool essential for classroom and collaboration
The new Conference CloneView allows users to the project large-scale medical images from a Barco display through a projector and onto the main screen to share accurate information. The new tool is available as a software feature with Barco’s MXRT medical display controllers, which have been designed to deliver the performance, quality and stability required for today’s 2D and 3D imaging applications in healthcare. Professor Tabar comments: “I am amazed and highly satisfied with the speed and image quality of the Conference CloneView. It makes very subtle, difficult-to-detect cancers and micro-calcifications clearly visible. I will use this at every course I teach from now on, and would highly recommend it to any medical educator as well as for multi-disciplinary team collaboration in the actual patient care setting.”

A firm commitment to breast imaging education
“We focus our technology development on features that significantly enhance image clarity with the goal of revealing breast cancers as early as possible,” comments Albert Xthona, Product Manager, Women’s Health for Barco. “We are thrilled to assist our partners with their educational programs, which empower radiologists to do their best work at breast cancer screening.

Professor Tabar’s next workshop, “How to Find Breast Cancer When it is Still Small” will be held December 4-7, 2012, in Florence/Firenze, Italy. Following this program he will conduct his workshops in the following locations:

January 16-18, 2013, Las Vegas, Nevada, 3-DAY ADVANCED Hands-On Screening Course, 240 full field digital mammography screening cases for you to read meeting both the MQSA and ACR accreditation requirements.

February 13-15, 2013, Australia (Sunshine Coast) 3-DAY ADVANCED Hands-On Screening Course, 240 full field digital mammography screening cases for you to read meeting both the MQSA and ACR accreditation requirements.

February 20-22, 2013, Australia (Sunshine Coast) 3-DAY ADVANCED Hands-On Screening Course, 240 full field digital mammography screening cases for you to read meeting both the MQSA and ACR accreditation requirements.

Barco is also supporting Hologic’s breast imaging workshop “Hologic, Inc: 3D Breast Tomosynthesis for Breast Cancer Screening and Diagnosis” at RSNA 2012, with sessions scheduled November 25-28 in BD 10, Booth 6404.
