The equipment provided by ANDRITZ will focus on improving production efficiency, strip shape, and strip surface condition to ensure the highest quality stainless-steel products. The highlight of the project is the Sundwig MonoBlock (SMB) 20-high cold mill, featuring a groundbreaking design for extended service life and reduced operating expenses. The order reaffirms the successful partnership between ANDRITZ and the Acerinox Group, of which NAS is a member. NAS is the largest fully integrated stainless-steel producer in the U.S.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 25-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — ANDRITZ (VIE: ANDR), an international technology group based in Austria, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a significant contract from North American Stainless (NAS) to deliver a comprehensive solution for their steel production facility in Ghent, Kentucky. The order includes the supply of a state-of-the-art 20-high cold-rolling mill, a 4-high skin pass mill, and an extensive upgrade to the existing annealing and pickling line #2.

With a focus on enhancing operational efficiency and product quality, ANDRITZ will provide complete mechanical and electrical equipment, as well as oversee the installation and start-up processes. The cutting-edge equipment will be designed to optimize production efficiency, improve strip shape, and enhance strip surface condition, ensuring the highest quality stainless-steel products are manufactured.

The centerpiece of this project is the revolutionary Sundwig MonoBlock (SMB) 20-high cold mill, featuring an innovative design that offers extended service life and reduced operating expenses. Capable of rolling products up to 1350 mm wide, with an incoming material gauge of 6.2 mm and a finished material gauge as thin as 0.15 mm, the SMB mill boasts several advanced features for easy maintenance. These include an automatic roll change device, expanded roll grinding ranges, simplified back-up roll assembly, and direct hydraulic adjustment through long stroke cylinders, resulting in a larger roll gap opening.

In addition, a new skin pass mill will be supplied, accommodating products up to 1600 mm wide and material gauges ranging from 6.2 mm to 0.3 mm. This mill will enhance the final product’s surface finish and provide precise dimensional control.

Furthermore, the upgrade to annealing and pickling line #2 will incorporate cutting-edge technologies, including a state-of-the-art furnace cooling section, shot blasting, and pickling equipment. These enhancements will improve overall production efficiency and further enhance the quality of NAS’s stainless-steel products.
