(IN BRIEF) ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, has unveiled a new Strategic Roadmap aimed at preparing the European power system for carbon neutrality. The roadmap focuses on integrating carbon-neutral energy sources, deploying flexibility resources, and enhancing grid infrastructure to ensure security and efficiency. While prioritizing preparations for carbon neutrality, ENTSO-E remains committed to providing a secure and efficient power system across Europe.
(PRESS RELEASE) BRUSSELS, 15-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, has introduced a transformative Strategic Roadmap aimed at aligning with the twofold mission of TSOs in Europe. This roadmap is structured around two pillars: preparing the power system for a Carbon-Neutral Europe and ensuring the management of a Secure and Efficient Power System across the continent.
Therefore, while continuing to facilitate power system security, efficiency and resilience, ENTSO-E is adding a new central dimension to its activities; a forward-looking approach based on the ENTSO-E Vision for a Carbon-Neutral Europe.
As Europe advances towards carbon neutrality, ENTSO-E recognizes the need for a forward-thinking approach to power system management. The roadmap emphasizes the integration of carbon-neutral energy sources, the deployment of flexibility resources to complement weather-dependent generation, and the enhancement of grid infrastructure for security and efficiency. With electrification playing a pivotal role and interdependencies across sectors increasing, the European electricity system emerges as a linchpin of the future energy landscape and the European economy.
While prioritizing preparations for carbon neutrality, TSOs remain steadfast in their commitment to providing a secure and efficient power system for all of Europe. This dual focus underscores ENTSO-E’s dedication to navigating the energy transition while upholding the reliability and resilience of the European power grid.
