UKFast pledges additional £3 million to its BASEfund contributing further to people’s safety and security online

  • The Cybersecurity Fund of UKFast tops £20m
  • The fund provides up to £10,000 funding towards improving cybersecurity
  • By year end UKFast is set to have given away a total of £20 million to protect its clients

(PRESS RELEASE) MANCHESTER, 17-Apr-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — UKFast, leading hosting firm in the UK, has just announced it is adding extra £3 million to its cybersecurity fund to protect businesses online. With the new donation the UKFast Cybersecurity Fund reached £20 million total amount already committed.

Over £17 million has been contributed by the BASEfund (stands for Building a Safer Environment) to UK businesses in the decade since the scheme was initially introduced.

The additional funding by UKFast will grow the fund’s scope and will enable hundreds of businesses to strengthen their security online.

Furthermore, new security products such as Threat Monitoring, DDoS protection, web application firewalls and penetration testing have been included with the relaunch of BASEfund.

UKFast and Secarma work closely to deliver cloud security solutions and penetration testing services to the clients. Secarma is a security business owned by UKFast founder and CEO Lawrence Jones MBE.

Commenting on the £3 million pledge, CEO Lawrence Jones, said:

“We spent the first decade and more of our journey explaining why people needed to get themselves online and get themselves higher up the search rankings. That has changed over the past decade, as businesses understand the value of being online. Now it’s our responsibility to help secure those organisations.

“All businesses need cybersecurity, but for some the cost is prohibitive and as a result there are more and more insecure websites and applications holding critical, sensitive information.

“BASEfund is designed to help businesses get the security they need, where it might otherwise be cost-prohibitive or overlooked for other priorities. We’ve set aside this pot of money to contribute towards people’s safety and security online because these threats have to be taken seriously. By the end of this year we’re set to have given away a total of £20m to protect our clients.

“The fund is specifically for security products and originally gave people access to firewalls and other hardware. With cyber-threats constantly changing and evolving, we’ve expanded BASEfund to include a raft of security products which our R&D team has developed in recent years.”

The current extra commitment to the cyber security by UKFast follows the £7.4 million deal of Secarma acquiring 13.3% stake in digital resilience group Shearwater Group PLC.

Some 5,500 UK SME clients and 200 mid-sized companies rely on UKFast for their hosting and cybersecurity needs.

Businesses can rely on and apply for up to £10,000 funding through the BASEfund in order to straighten their online security.

More information on the BASEfund can be found online at the following web address: ukfast.co.uk/basefund.html.

UKFast is one of the largest independently owned hosting firms in the UK serving more than 5,000 government, public sector and commercial organisations. The company had generated £53 million revenue in 2018 through a wide-ranging product portfolio including Infrastructure as a Service, DR as a Service and its cloud offering, eCloud®.
