U.S. Army Corps Awards Contract to ANDRITZ for Tennessee Power Plant Rehabilitation

(IN BRIEF) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Nashville District has awarded international technology group ANDRITZ a contract to rehabilitate turbines and generators at the Old Hickory hydroelectric power plant located on the Cumberland River in Tennessee. Once completed, the plant is expected to generate about 565 GWh of power per year, and the first unit is slated to be commissioned in August 2026. ANDRITZ’s scope of supply includes the design, manufacture, transport, erection, testing, and commissioning of three Kaplan turbine generator units, with an optional fourth unit. The contract will be executed by ANDRITZ’s U.S. subsidiary based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 23-Feb-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  ANDRITZ (VIE: ANDR), an international technology group based in Austria, announces that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Nashville District for the rehabilitation of turbines and generators at the Old Hickory hydroelectric power plant. The 162 MW power plant is situated on the Cumberland River near Hendersonville in Central Tennessee. Once fully operational, it is expected to generate approximately 565 GWh of power per year, with the commissioning of the first unit scheduled for August 2026.

Under the terms of the contract, ANDRITZ will design, manufacture, transport, erect, test and commission three Kaplan turbine generator units with a capacity of 40.5 MW each, as well as associated auxiliaries and ancillary equipment. The company also has an option to supply a fourth unit. The contract will be carried out by ANDRITZ’s U.S. subsidiary located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The award of this contract further cements ANDRITZ’s position as a major player in the hydropower market in the United States.
