It will be a vital component of ArcelorMittal’s new electrical steel production complex in Mardyck, northern France. The mill offers high roll force, torque, and bending capabilities with a small work roll diameter and will be capable of rolling strip up to 1,450 mm wide to a minimum finished material gauge of 0.2 mm. ANDRITZ will supply complete mechanical and electrical equipment and oversee installation and startup. ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products will produce all electrical steels for automotive applications at this new complex, solidifying its position as a leader in the sector.

This contract entails the supply of a state-of-the-art reversible 6-high cold-rolling mill specially designed for processing high-grade non-oriented silicon steel strip (NGO), primarily destined for electric motors in the burgeoning e-mobility sector.

The reversible 6-high cold-rolling mill is poised to revolutionize the production of light-gauge strip, a highly sought-after component in the creation of compact, lightweight, and energy-efficient traction motors. This cutting-edge mill will play a pivotal role in ArcelorMittal’s ambitious plan to establish a new production complex for electrical steels, strategically located at its facility in Mardyck, northern France.

At the heart of the ANDRITZ 6-high mill lies its exceptional capability to deliver high roll force, roll torque, and bending forces, all within a compact work roll diameter. When coupled with a comprehensive suite of process instrumentation and an extraordinarily adaptable cooling and strip-drying strategy, this mill provides ArcelorMittal with the perfect solution to meet stringent quality standards while maintaining high production volumes.

This advanced rolling mill is engineered to handle strip widths of up to 1,450 mm, delivering a minimum finished material gauge of 0.2 mm, which is pivotal for the production of superior-grade electrical steels.

ANDRITZ’s scope of work encompasses the complete design and supply of mechanical and electrical equipment, including comprehensive oversight of the installation and startup phases. The core equipment will be meticulously pre-assembled and rigorously tested at ANDRITZ’s cutting-edge workshop in Hemer, Germany.

ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products, the largest producer of flat steel in Europe, will consolidate its position further as a leader in the electrical steel sector with the new complex in Mardyck and its existing facility in Saint Chély. The entire range of ArcelorMittal Europe’s electrical steels dedicated to automotive applications will originate from these state-of-the-art production centers.
