The drivers will race on a unique 2.355km circuit with 10 turns, featuring the highly-abrasive concrete apron of the historic airport instead of the usual asphalt of street circuits. This will result in increased tire wear and the need for careful energy management, guaranteeing action-packed races on the flowing circuit.

As a key player in Germany’s automotive sector, ABB provides robotics and automation solutions, including the establishment of the country’s EV charging infrastructure. Battery production is a critical factor for the EV market, as they account for approximately one-third of EV costs, and their quality directly impacts the distance travelled per charge. ABB helps automotive manufacturers meet critical quality requirements and minimize production costs to make EVs more affordable during the assembly of battery cells and packs.

For instance, ABB’s Machine Automation Division (B&R) uses Exacom’s x-ray inspection units to scan 175 cells per minute by individually moving them at high speeds using the ACOPOStrak transport system. Compared to conventional conveyors, ACOPOStrak shuttles provide a more gentle handling system, faster positioning and increased throughput due to their exceptional acceleration and deceleration.

ABB is playing a vital role in driving the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable mobility solutions in Germany. The company has installed 3,519 DC chargers across the country, 129 of which are in Berlin, making it a leading player in Germany’s EV charging infrastructure implementation. ABB’s latest generation of traction converters is being installed on more than 600 underground cars in Berlin. Replacing the 30-year-old fleet with modern vehicles equipped with customized ABB technology will improve reliability and efficiency while accommodating growing passenger numbers.

PTC is headquartered in Berlin and supplies the power needed for vital systems that enhance passenger comfort, such as lighting, HVAC system, safety equipment, doors, and battery charging. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will now move to the iconic Monaco street circuit on May 6th after the double-header in Berlin. The Season 9 calendar includes 16 races in 11 global locations.
