LUKOIL Initiates Construction of Solar Power Plant in Kazakhstan, Aiming for Sustainable Energy Solutions

(IN BRIEF) In a significant step towards sustainability, LUKOIL lays a commemorative capsule to signify the beginning of construction for a solar power plant (SPP) in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan. The project, with a design capacity of 4.95 MW, will supply environmentally friendly solar energy to the production facilities of LLC LUKOIL Lubricants Central Asia. Scheduled for completion of the first 2 MW line in 2024, this initiative underscores LUKOIL’s commitment to energy efficiency and reducing its carbon footprint. The company, known for its hydrocarbons production, is increasingly investing in renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower generation, aligning with global efforts for decarbonization as evidenced by its participation in the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter signed in December 2023.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 3-Mar-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — A commemorative capsule to mark the beginning of the construction of a solar power plant (SPP) was laid in the Almaty region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The project will provide the production facilities of LLC LUKOIL Lubricants Central Asia (a wholly owned PJSC LUKOIL subsidiary) with environmentally friendly solar energy.

The SPP will be located close to the LUKOIL’s lubricants factory. Its design capacity amounts to 4.95 MW. Construction of the first 2 MW line of the plant is to be completed in 2024.

LUKOIL puts a premium on its energy efficiency and decreasing its carbon footprint related to hydrocarbons production. The Company actively develops solar, wind and hydropower generation.

The landmark project of the 2023 was the commissioning of a largest green energy facility: a wind park in the Murmansk region with capacity of over 200 MW.
