Lemminkäinen, Lukkaroinen architects, WSP Finland, Sweco Talotekniikka and Are Talotekniikka consortium to build community centre in Hiukkavaara, Oulu

HELSINKI, 01-Feb-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — A consortium comprising Lemminkäinen, Lukkaroinen architects, WSP Finland, Sweco Talotekniikka and Are Talotekniikka together with the City of Oulu and the Oulu Facilities Management Centre have signed an implementation-stage alliance contract for the construction of a community centre in Hiukkavaara, Oulu. The total value of the project is approximately EUR 20.5 million, of which Lemminkäinen’s share is approximately EUR 14.3 million. Construction is due to begin in spring 2016, with completion due by late summer 2017.

The building is due to house a nursery, a primary school with capacity for 700 pupils, morning and after-school clubs as well as youth and sports clubs. The gross surface area will measure 11,600 square metres. The alliance is setting out to run the community centre project cost-effectively, taking the building’s full life cycle into consideration. Under the alliance agreement, the parties make decisions together and potential risks and benefits are shared.

We have been through the project phase by phase using a modelling approach and we now have a clear, shared vision and implementation plan in place,” commented Pauli Mäkelä, Executive Vice President, Building construction, Lemminkäinen.

In 2014, Oulu’s Facilities Management Centre organised a tendering process that placed an emphasis on the prospective project partners’ capacity for joint working.

Lemminkäinen first announced the development-stage contract on 12 June 2015.
