HENSOLDT Opens Major ZEBEL Warehousing and Component Hub for Bundeswehr Logistics

(IN BRIEF) HENSOLDT has opened a new 40,000-square-metre logistics centre in Wolfhagen, Germany, to support Bundeswehr spare-parts logistics and equipment sustainment activities. Operations are scheduled to begin in early September 2026. The facility includes 30,000 square metres for the Bundeswehr Central Spare Parts Logistics programme, known as ZEBEL, and 10,000 square metres for a component hub operated with HIL GmbH. The centre is expected to store around 70,000 supply items, process more than one million transactions annually and employ over 70 people. HENSOLDT said the site will strengthen the operational readiness of the German Armed Forces by improving spare-parts availability, equipment handling and logistics resilience. The opening also marks another stage in the company’s long-running ZEBEL partnership, which has supported Bundeswehr logistics for 27 years.

(PRESS RELEASE) WOLFHAGEN, 25-Jun-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — HENSOLDT has officially opened a new logistics centre in Wolfhagen, Germany, which will support Bundeswehr spare-parts logistics and component-management activities from early September 2026.

The facility will house warehousing operations for the Bundeswehr Central Spare Parts Logistics project, known as ZEBEL, as well as a component hub operated in cooperation with Army Maintenance Logistics company HIL GmbH.

The project was completed after less than two years of construction and was handed over during an official ceremony attended by representatives of the Bundeswehr, regional political stakeholders and project partners.

bauWerk Gesellschaft für Projektberatung und Baumanagement mbH, based in Gießen, was responsible for project development and management through to turnkey delivery. HENSOLDT will operate as tenant at the site and will manage the storage of selected Bundeswehr spare parts, replacement components and faulty equipment requiring repair by HIL GmbH.

The Wolfhagen logistics centre has a total area of around 40,000 square metres. Approximately 30,000 square metres are allocated to ZEBEL operations, while 10,000 square metres are dedicated to the component hub commissioned by HIL GmbH. Additional office space is also included within the development.

Once fully operational, the site is expected to store around 70,000 supply items and process more than one million transactions each year. The centre will employ more than 70 people and is expected to contribute to logistics capacity and employment in North Hesse.

HENSOLDT said the facility is intended to strengthen the availability of spare parts and support the operational readiness of the German Armed Forces. The company has been providing logistics services to the Bundeswehr through ZEBEL for 27 years.

Stephan Heitz, Head of Logistics Management at HENSOLDT, said the company is implementing its eighth ZEBEL contract and expects requirements for speed, resilience, transparency and adaptability in defence logistics to continue increasing.

Major General Jochen Deuer, Commander of the Bundeswehr Logistics Command, said the development and expansion of logistics capabilities are central to maintaining credible deterrence and defence readiness. He described ZEBEL as an important element of the Bundeswehr’s logistics system and highlighted the long-standing cooperation between the armed forces and HENSOLDT, as well as its predecessor company ESG.

Jens Nielsen, Head of HENSOLDT’s Services & Training division, said the logistics depot supports the company’s work to improve armed-forces readiness, reduce equipment downtime and maintain the availability of essential materials.

ZEBEL began as a pilot project in 1999 and has since developed into a major logistics partnership between industry and the Bundeswehr. According to HENSOLDT, the programme has maintained a fulfilment rate of 98%.

The new Wolfhagen centre is designed to provide additional capacity for spare-parts storage, equipment handling and component support as Germany continues to strengthen logistics resilience and defence sustainment capabilities.
