(PRESS RELEASE) TESSERETE, Switserland, 7-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — From August 21 to 23, 2026, the small town of Tesserete in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland, will host the 39th Swiss Juggling Convention (SJC 2026), the country’s largest annual gathering dedicated to juggling and circus arts. The event is free and open to the public, and organizers expect between 100 and 200 participants from across Switzerland and neighboring countries, alongside curious visitors from the local community.

The Swiss Juggling Convention changes location every year, moving to a different canton each edition. For 2026, the juggling community selected Ticino, which last hosted the convention in 2015 in Cevio and, before that, in 2000 in Bellinzona. This will be the third time the Italian-speaking region welcomes the event.

Organized entirely by volunteers from the Collettivo Acrobolieri, a group of jugglers based in the Lugano area, together with the newly founded Association 39th Swiss Juggling Convention in Ticino, the weekend follows the format that has made these gatherings popular for decades: open training space, spontaneous workshops for all levels, a public juggling and circus arts show, games and a juggling contest, and the general assembly of the Swiss Juggling Association.

One of the founding principles of the convention is that it remains accessible to everyone, which is why admission has always been free. Unlike most sports gatherings, juggling conventions are built around exchange rather than competition, giving the event an inclusive, community-driven character that is rare to find elsewhere.

The program includes a Friday evening welcome for arriving participants, a Saturday full of open workshops ranging from beginner to expert level, a public show on Saturday evening or Sunday, and a Sunday of contests, games and the association’s general assembly before the event wraps up in the afternoon.

The convention takes place at the elementary school gymnasium in Tesserete and the surrounding outdoor spaces, offering room for training, camping and the various activities that make up a full juggling weekend.

Collettivo Acrobolieri is a volunteer group of jugglers and circus arts enthusiasts based in the Lugano area of Ticino, Switzerland. Since its founding, the collective has organized several community events, including the Castagnata Giocolosa in the woods of Capriasca, a New Year juggling convention at the Steiner School in Origlio, and the first edition of a spring juggling convention at the same location. In 2026, the group takes on its largest project to date: organizing the 39th Swiss Juggling Convention in Tesserete, bringing the national convention to Ticino for the third time in its history.
