HENSOLDT Advances Bundeswehr Multi-Domain Operations With Dismounted JFST Systems

(IN BRIEF) HENSOLDT has been awarded a series contract by BAAINBw to supply equipment for dismounted Joint Fire Support Teams of the Bundeswehr. The project will equip JTAC/JFO personnel, who request and direct close air support for ground forces and coordinate indirect artillery fire. As prime contractor, HENSOLDT will handle equipment procurement, system integration and software development for Digitally Aided Close Air Support, including a digital link between JTAC personnel and aircraft. The system will also integrate a video downlink, ADLER III fire support software, modern communications, intelligent power supply and networking solutions, electro-optical sensors, laser target designators and an ergonomic field-ready carrying system.

(PRESS RELEASE) TAUFKIRCHEN, 5-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — HENSOLDT has received a series contract from the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support, known as BAAINBw, to supply equipment for dismounted Joint Fire Support Teams.

The contract follows a previous order under which HENSOLDT successfully demonstrated the capabilities of the system it had developed.

The dismounted Joint Fire Support Team, or JFST, project is focused on equipping Joint Terminal Attack Controllers and Joint Forward Observers, known as JTAC/JFO personnel.

These teams are responsible for requesting and directing close air support for ground forces, as well as coordinating indirect artillery fire.

HENSOLDT will act as prime contractor for the programme.

In this role, the company is responsible not only for procuring the equipment for the dismounted Joint Fire Support Teams, but also for complete system integration and the development of the software component for Digitally Aided Close Air Support, or DaCAS.

The DaCAS software provides the digital link between the JTAC and the aircraft.

The project also includes the integration of a video downlink system, enabling video data to be transmitted from aircraft to the dismounted JFST.

This allows the established “man-in-the-loop” concept to be transferred from the air to the ground.

To support the requesting of ground-based indirect fire, the ADLER III C4 and fire support system software will be fully integrated into the dismounted JFST equipment.

The system package will also include modern communication systems, intelligent power supply solutions and networking capabilities.

In addition, corresponding electro-optical sensors for target measurement and laser target designators will be integrated.

The specification also covers the field-ready design of the carrying system used to accommodate the various system components.

This includes requirements relating to weight distribution, cable routing and the ergonomic arrangement of equipment for operational use by dismounted teams.

HENSOLDT said the delivery of the dismounted Joint Fire Support Team equipment will strengthen the Bundeswehr’s capabilities for multi-domain operations within the framework of national and alliance defence.

Through the series contract, HENSOLDT is supporting the digitalisation of close air support and fire support coordination for ground forces, combining software, sensor, communications and integration expertise in a field-ready solution for dismounted operations.
