Enoch Hill and Camster II Add 106 MW of Clean Power Capacity for RWE in Scotland

(IN BRIEF) RWE has completed construction of the 70 MW Enoch Hill onshore wind farm near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire, Scotland. The project is the second new Scottish onshore wind farm constructed by RWE in 2026, following Camster II in Caithness. Together, the two projects add 106 MW of new clean generation capacity to RWE’s Scottish portfolio. Enoch Hill was consented in 2019, construction began in 2023, first electricity was generated in April 2026, and turbine commissioning was completed in May 2026. The wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 68,000 typical UK homes. The project also delivered local supply-chain benefits and unlocked a £10.5 million community fund focused exclusively on New Cumnock during its first five years.

(PRESS RELEASE) EAST AYRSHIRE, 11-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE has completed construction of its latest Scottish onshore wind farm, Enoch Hill, located near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire.

The 70 megawatt project adds new clean generation capacity to Scotland’s energy system and is expected to support energy resilience while delivering long-term benefits for local communities, suppliers and the regional economy.

Commissioning of the turbines was completed in May 2026, making Enoch Hill the second new onshore wind farm constructed by RWE in Scotland this year.

It followed Camster II in Caithness, which was completed in April 2026.

Together, Enoch Hill and Camster II add 106 MW of new clean and secure generation capacity to RWE’s operational portfolio in Scotland.

RWE currently operates nine onshore wind farms in Scotland, with a combined maximum installed capacity of 229 MW.

The Enoch Hill project received consent in September 2019.

Construction began in June 2023, and the wind farm generated first electricity in April 2026.

The project uses a mix of Nordex N133/4.8 turbines and Nordex N117/3600 Delta4000 turbines.

Once operational, the wind farm will be capable of generating enough electricity to power around 68,000 typical UK homes.

Nadine Janecke, RWE Chief Development Director, Renewables Europe & Australia, said the completion of construction at Enoch Hill is another important milestone in RWE’s delivery of clean, secure domestic power in Scotland.

She said projects such as Enoch Hill also support local communities and economies by placing local jobs, skills and suppliers at the centre of project delivery.

Janecke added that, as RWE continues to deliver its project pipeline, the company will keep investing in local communities and supporting the development of a secure, affordable and sustainable energy system for the long term.

During construction, RWE and its principal contractors, Farrans and Nordex, placed strong emphasis on using the local supply chain.

More than 38 percent of Farrans’ construction spend was directed to suppliers located within 20 miles of the site.

A further 23 percent of spending went to suppliers within 50 miles.

In addition, 68 percent of all subcontracts were awarded to local suppliers, while more than 26 percent of all subcontracted spend was retained in the region.

Nordex also supported regional investment by contracting local companies for key functions.

These included MW Hir in Ayrshire, The Bacas in Dalmellington and Maneight Farm in Cumnock.

Patrick Murray, Regional Director for Farrans, said the company was proud to have worked in partnership with RWE on Enoch Hill, building on its successful delivery of the Camster II onshore wind farm.

He said Farrans’ experience in onshore wind construction and long-standing operations in Scotland meant it was well placed to lead the project.

Murray added that by directing part of the project spend to local suppliers and subcontractors, Farrans helped deliver important new renewable infrastructure while supporting employment and strengthening the local economy in East Ayrshire and beyond.

Mike Short, Director Project Management for Nordex UK & Ireland at Nordex Group, said the project had been driven by a shared focus on safety, quality and teamwork from the first component deliveries in August 2024 through to energisation and turbine test runs in 2026.

He said that even when the project faced challenges outside the partners’ control, collaboration remained strong and kept delivery moving forward.

Short added that it was rewarding to see Enoch Hill fully operational and ready to generate clean electricity for years to come, and said Nordex was proud to have delivered the project in partnership with RWE again.

RWE expects Enoch Hill to provide long-term local benefits throughout its operating lifetime.

These benefits include local business rates, opportunities for Scottish companies to participate in operations and maintenance activities, and support for local employment and skills development.

The project has also unlocked a new £10.5 million community fund.

During its first five years, the fund will focus exclusively on New Cumnock.

RWE appointed Foundation Scotland to manage the fund during its early stages as a direct response to public consultation.

Through the completion of Enoch Hill, RWE is expanding its Scottish onshore wind portfolio, strengthening renewable generation capacity and supporting local economic activity linked to clean energy infrastructure.
