(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 12-Mar-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Bouygues S.A. (EPA: EN), a French engineering group, has been awarded the prestigious contract by the town of Palaiseau, France, to undertake the energy refurbishment project at the Joliot-Curie junior school. With an estimated budget of €7 million, the project will be executed by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, renowned for its expertise in energy-efficient construction practices. Embracing the EnergieSprong approach, Bouygues will leverage innovative solutions to enhance the school’s energy performance while ensuring sustainability and operational efficiency. Scheduled to commence in July 2024, the project aims to deliver state-of-the-art facilities by September 2025, underscoring Bouygues SA’s commitment to excellence in sustainable infrastructure development.

The comprehensive contract encompasses design collaboration with Enia Architects, refurbishment works, and operation and maintenance of technical installations, ensuring compliance with the client’s energy performance requirements. Built in the 1960s and serving 265 children, the Joliot-Curie junior school will undergo a groundbreaking renovation program.

Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France’s BYSprong program demonstrated its capability to meet the school’s needs in line with the EnergieSprong challenge. Emphasizing the massification of energy renovations, BYSprong integrates cutting-edge methods like “off-site” solutions, aimed at democratizing access to low-energy refurbishment. Industrializing the shell with factory-manufactured timber-frame walls, incorporating innovative low-tech solutions such as Paziaud supply-air windows and single-flow controlled mechanical ventilation, and installing photovoltaic panels and using biosourced materials such as raw earth bricks and a wood-straw facade, are among the strategies to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

The project, slated to commence in early July 2024, aims to maximize the use of biosourced materials to further minimize the carbon footprint. Anticipated completion is set for the start of the 2025 school year, marking a significant stride towards sustainable and energy-efficient infrastructure in Palaiseau.
