LIVERPOOL, 20-May-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Professor Matthew Rosseinsky from the Department of Chemistry has been awarded a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant. His grant is one of five ERC grants awarded to the University in 2015.
ERC schemes, which are highly competitive, are designed to attract researchers to European Institutions with exceptional track records from anywhere in the world.
Professor Rosseinsky will receive £2million for his ‘Dynapore’ programme to develop the methodology to synthesize dynamic responsive porous crystals. This has many possible applications from enabling complex catalytic pathways through to providing a novel selective capture mechanism that could help combat climate change through carbon capture.
Dr Alison Fairclough, Head of Research Policy, said: “The 2015 success is the largest number of awards Liverpool has ever achieved in this competition and is a positive indicator of the quality of research leadership at Liverpool in all three Faculties. .
“Liverpool researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences performed particularly well achieving three awards. Professor Rosseinsky’s achievement is particularly notable as this is the second Advanced Grant he has achieved, which is extremely rare.”
The University’s successful ERC applicants for 2015 are Dr Nuno Ferreira from School of Law and Social Justice (Starting Grant), Dr Konstantinos Mavrokoridis, School of Physical Sciences (Starting Grant), Dr Ben Ambridge, Institute of Psychology Health and Society (Consolidator Grant), Professor Nandini Das from the School of the Arts (Consolidator Grant) and Professor Rosseinsky.
