NORWICH, 09-Jun-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Five University of East Anglia (UEA) students are combining raising money for charity with taking the trip of a lifetime when they graduate this summer.
On 11 June, as soon as they finish their exams, they’ll be packing up Mildred the Micra, Petunia the Polo and Herbert the Honda motorcycle and travelling 9,000 miles across 13 countries to Mongolia, raising money for the mental health charity Mind as they go.
“The drive will take us five weeks and we want people who’ve sponsored us to feel part of the trip so, by giving £30 or more, donors can set us a challenge to complete during our journey,” said Will Vickers. “We aim to raise at least £2,000 for Mind because, as a group of young males at university, we appreciate the effect that the pressures and stresses of life can have. We believe that if we do our part to raise awareness and try to reduce the stigma that can be associated with mental health, we will be helping to provide vital support to those who need it most.
“I’m looking forward to having the freedom to explore some of the most deserted places on the globe, especially as we’ll be travelling off the beaten track for much of the way. Our biggest challenge will probably be carrying out repairs to our vehicles with very few resources and little knowledge. Their combined value is £600 so they’re a little rusty and worse for wear in places and will definitely take a beating as we travel through remote areas in Europe, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan before reaching Mongolia.”
Details of the team’s journey is on their website http://norwich2mongolia.co.uk/ and donations can be made via their fundraising site www.gofundme.com/norwich2mongolia. They will also write a blog – with updates on their challenges – https://motowanderer.net/ . As well as the chance to set a challenge, anyone giving £10 or more will get their name written on the bonnet of one of the cars.
