TU/e professor Hans Kuipers has been appointed as one of the sixteen new members of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the academy announced today. Membership of the KNAW is regarded as a great honor in a scientist’s career, and is reserved for excellent scientists in the Netherlands. Kuipers is the twelfth TU/e professor to be appointed as a KNAW member.
Eindhoven, Netherlands, 14-5-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Hans Kuipers (1959) is professor of Multiscale modeling of multiphase flows in the department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at TU/e. He works on understanding of flows consisting of multiple phases, such as fluid–gas and gas–solid. Using highly advances computer simulations, Kuipers makes precise models of new chemical reactors in process industry, for example for large-scale production of synthetic fuels and fertilizes, detergents, polymers and many other products. His work has a global reputation.
KNAW members
The KNAW has around 500 members, who are selected for their advanced scientific achievements. Members are appointed for life. KNAW members meet for knowledge exchange and debates on scientific topics, scientific policy and matters relating to sciences and society. Guests from the worlds of science, politics, education, business and the art are frequently invited to attend the society’s meetings. Members make an essential contribution to the advisory role of the KNAW by taking part in the society’s committees and councils. They also act as experts in KNAW juries that are responsible for the various scientific prizes and awards.
Together with the other new KNAW members, Kuipers will be installed on Monday 28 September 2015 in the Trippenhuis of the KNAW. He is the twelfth TU/e professor to be appointed as KNAW member. A list of all KNAW members of TU/e can be found here.
