Trinity College Dublin expands college-wide student exchange programme

DUBLIN, 17-Jul-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Trinity currently has almost 200 Erasmus partner universities across Europe. We continue to expand our college-wide student exchange programme and in 2016/17, added eight new exchanges to bring the number of non-EU exchanges with high ranking universities globally to 43.

These new exchanges will be open to students for the next academic year. There are many opportunities for students to study abroad in leading Asian Universities (including mainland China and Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and Korea) and students are supported by the Provost’s Asian Travel Bursary which defrays some of the costs encountered.

During the academic year 2016/17, 784 undergraduate Trinity students (approximately 29% of the undergraduate student body) studied overseas as part of mobility programmes, research placements and elective clinical placements

“Growing globally is central to the University’s mission in education, research and innovation – we pursue policies and actions to increase student exchanges, deepen collaborations with peer institutions round the world, and to ensure a welcoming, international campus that celebrates diversity,” commented Professor Juliette Hussey, Vice-President for Global Relations.

In 2016, Trinity became the tenth member of the Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA) which is a non-profit consortium of nine leading research universities in the United States including Harvard, Brown and Columbia. CASA was established to provide a framework to facilitate student mobility internationally, through the establishment of study-centres around the world. The first Trinity CASA students travelled to Havana in January 2017 to study in the CASA centre in Cuba and brought a European perspective and input to discussions on Latin American Studies and the US/Cuba relationship.
