MIND GAMES ENTHUSIASTS, REJOICE! THE 4TH EDITION OF THE SPORTACCORD WORLD MIND GAMES RETURNS IN DECEMBER THIS YEAR, BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!
Lausanne, Switzerland, 2-10-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Taking place in Beijing from the 11-17 December, the World Mind Games 2014 boast of 5 mind sports, namely chess, bridge, Go, xiangqi and draughts, which will feature 150 participants across the following disciplines-
The tournament this year features a new discipline in draughts as American checkers makes its debut. The format sees an 8X8 board making its way to the table, instead of the standard 10X10 board used for standard draughts play.
Among the major names already confirmed for this year’s World Mind Games are Levon Aronian and defending women’s champion Hou Yifan (both chess); defending champion and world number 1 Fulvio Fantoni (bridge) and defending champion Joel Atse N’Cho (draughts). Leading South Korean Go players are expected to qualify for the event soon and the final list of participants would be completed by the middle of this month.
“The format has been successfully tested over the past editions of the SportAccord World Mind Games and seeks to blend the traditional formats with the more spectacular crowd-pleasing ones. This year’s format will guarantee high-level competition and bring out the best performance of the players,” says David Nivelle, director of the multi-sport games department at SportAccord.
Started in 2011, the World Mind Games seek to be a confluence of the mind, bringing together some of the best practitioners of mind sports on a common platform. Beijing has hosted every edition of the World Mind Games so far and will host over 550 participants related to the World Mind Games this year, including officials and volunteers.
The build-up to the World Mind Games has been dominated by the ongoing conduct of the World Mind Games Online Tournament 2014, registrations for which are still open (till 15th October for chess and till the end of the month for bridge).
