22-7-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — TSO Security Cooperation (TSC) opened a coordination centre for all TSC activities on 1 July in Munich, another key step towards improving the security of supply in Central Europe. The centre will be headed by Alexander Wirth of Swissgrid.
TSC represents a partnership of 12 European transmission system operators. Swissgrid has been involved in it since its founding for the purpose of ensuring the supply of electricity to 170 million Europeans. The coordination centre commenced operations on 1 July, as planned. Swissgrid played a key role in supporting and enabling this launch.
One of the centre’s purposes is to serve as the operator for the operational planning processes of the twelve participating transmission system operators – 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. It also commenced testing for the constant intraday forecasting process (short-term buying and selling of electricity within one trading day). The coordination centre will also offer other services in the future, for example IT and process development, data management, and capacity calculation for participating European transmission system operators. In addition to the head of the centre, Alexander Küster is another Swissgrid specialist providing his services.
