LONDON, 4-8-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — A safety and environmental protection manager has become the first employee at the Saudi Electricity Company to pass the British Safety Council’s prestigious International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health.

Waleed Al-Jawadi, Safety and Environmental Prevention Division Manager for the Saudi Electricity Company’s Western Region, achieved the qualification following several months of intensive study, two challenging examinations and the successful completion of two practical assignments. The International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health covers all aspects of occupational health and safety management and allows the holder to apply for graduate membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Waleed said: “By implementing the knowledge gained from the qualification, I have been able to improve the health and safety management system and procedures in the division under my control.

“I have also been able to apply my skills to tasks such as a gap analysis study to help the Saudi Electricity Company achieve certification under the OHSAS 180001 international health and safety management standard.”

Neal Stone, acting chief executive of the British Safety Council, said: “I congratulate Waleed Al-Jawadi on passing the International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health. Competent and knowledgeable safety practitioners play a crucial role in protecting workers from the risk of injury and ill health. The British Safety Council wishes Waleed every success in contributing to the effective management of risks by the Saudi Electricity Company.”

Waleed is now studying for the international version of the IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management with the British Safety Council. He hopes to apply the skills and competencies gained to ensure the effective management of environmental risks in the region under his control and to contribute to the Saudi Electricity Company achieving certification under the ISO 14001 international environmental management standard.
