Dortmund/Ludwigshafen, 17-7-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — A chemical company is leading the way: BASF is replacing 100 company vehicles that have combustion engines with electric cars this year. Technology partner RWE will expand their charging infrastructure by the end of this year accordingly. Because if there is a charging point available for each individual electric vehicle, the cars will be ready for use at any time. This will benefit both the environment and the employees, with whom this way of getting around is very popular. More than 40 charging points have already been installed in Ludwigshafen.
“We create chemistry for future mobility”
BASF has already been using electric mobility for internal company transport since 2011. So far 38 electric vehicles are in use in greater Ludwigshafen and on the BASF sites. In addition 16 electric cars are in use at another 10 German plants and in Antwerp. The successful four-year trial period has led to the current expansion of the fleet. The employees have embraced the offer with the motto of “We create chemistry for future mobility” and are enjoying the innovative driving experience. And the vehicles have proven their reliability and suitability for everyday use compared to conventional cars – this also applies to the vehicles’ range in daily use for company purposes. By expanding its fleet, BASF will now have more than 150 electric vehicles at its disposal.
More vehicles need more charging points
Expanding the charging infrastructure on the BASF site, which measures approximately 10 square kilometres, by 100 charging points is exactly the right move at this time according to Dr Arndt Neuhaus, CEO of RWE Deutschland AG: “Electric cars can charge wherever they are parked. That is what makes electric mobility so convenient. With its commitment to this scheme, BASF is helping to ensure that this worthwhile type of mobility will prevail in the long term.”
