Dushanbe, Tajikista, 05-Dec-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — A two-day training course for youth on tackling gender stereotypes and further supporting the advancement of women and girls in all spheres of public and political life concluded on 2 December 2016 at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
The course brought together some 40 participants aged between 18-25 from national public youth organization Hamsol ba Hamsol (Peer to Peer), a Youth Peer Education Network.
The participants took part in an interactive training course, dialogue and debates by using role play and stories from real life.
“It is very important to distinguish traditional values that every nation has embroidered in its own culture from the harmful practices resulting from misinterpretation of those values. Young people are the future of this country and investing in their education is an investment in the future,” said Vesna Ivanovikj-Castarede, Head of the Democratization Unit at the OSCE Office.
Amriali Faqirov, the trainer, said: “We are raising awareness of youth on national gender strategies in order to give them skills to eliminate gender stereotypes and to advocate for equal opportunities for women and girls.”
