6-12-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — Arriva’s Polish rail business has taken delivery of the first of four new trains as part of a deal with manufacturers PESA Bydgoszcz.
Two SA133 series units, part of a €10 million investment, are now operating on Arriva’s rail contract in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region of northern Poland. The 10-year contract, which was re-awarded in 2010, includes an additional rail line and has increased Arriva’s annual kilometres operated in Poland by 15 per cent.
Each new unit provides capacity for up to 300 passengers and includes CCTV, at-seat power sockets at selected seats and new style seating. All units meet Euro IIIB emission standards.
Damian Grabowski, chairman of Arriva RP, said: “The delivery of these first two trains represents a significant investment by Arriva into the Polish rail market.
“Since securing the tender back in 2010 we have seen a growth in passenger numbers. Our new train investment can really help boost patronage further and represents a significant opportunity to enhance the profile of public transport in northern Poland.
“The new trains are the result a €10 million investment by Arriva and have been well received by our partners and of course, our customers. People have been impressed with their fresh layout, new technology and passenger comfort.
“We look forward to bringing the last two units into our operations later this month.”
The new trains were launched at a ceremony by Arriva RP, PESA Bydgoszcz and Dariusz Kurzawa, Deputy Marshall of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region at Torun Wschodni, a major rail hub.
They will predominately operate on the Bydgoszcz – Tuchola and Torun – corridors. The remaining two units will be delivered to Arriva RP over the coming weeks.
