Mr Michalis SARRIS becomes EIB Governor for the Republic of Cyprus

18-3-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Following recent presidential elections in the Republic of Cyprus, a new government has been formed and Mr Michalis SARRIS was sworn in as Minister of Finance on 1 March 2013, succeeding Mr Vassos Shiarly. Mr Sarris also becomes EIB Governor for the Republic of Cyprus.

Mr Sarris already served as Finance Minister from September 2005 until March 2008, i.e. during the introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Cyprus.

From 1975 to 2004, he served at the World Bank reaching the level of Director.

From January to August 2012, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Laiki Bank Group.

Mr Sarris, born in 1946, holds a B. Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Doctorate in Economics from Wayne State University, USA.
