19-12-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — CEP President Marc Cerón met with Giovanni Tamburino, head of the Department of the Penitentiary Administration in Italy. Mr. Cerón was warmly received during his stay in Rome for the 17th CDAP Conference that took place 22-24 November, 2012. Italy is a long time and valued member of CEP, and Mr. Tamburino confirmed his commitment to the CEP network.
The meeting was a good opportunity to inform Mr. Tamburino about CEP’s activities for the year 2013 and to learn more about the present situation in Italy in the field of probation. Mr. Tamburino was particularly interested to know more about the planned meeting of coming April in Oslo, Norway, and the World Congress on Probation in October 2013. More information on the events will follow in due time. He also emphasized his belief that probation measures can be important tools to reduce the extensive use of incarceration. These and other issues were discussed in an open and productive atmosphere.
