LMU-Harvard Young Scientists’ Forum (YSF), July 23-26: From Molecule to Organism

MUNICH, 24-Jul-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — The LMU-Harvard Forum brings PhD students, post-docs and LMU faculty in the Biosciences together with their peers from one of the world’s most renowned universities to review and discuss their current work. This year’s LMU-Harvard Young Scientists’ Forum (YSF) is being hosted by LMU, and takes place on July 23rd to 26th at the Biocenter and the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS).

Under the motto “From Molecule to Organism”, the 2017 meeting focuses on neurobiology. The Forum enables a select group of the very best young researchers from LMU and Harvard University to meet and engage in interdisciplinary discussions on issues related to their current projects, and to plan future collaborative ventures. The format of the conference gives them the opportunity to present their latest results in diverse, thematically organized workshops. Critical feedback from their peers during these sessions, and stimulating advice from experienced faculty from both institutions help them to develop and extend their research projects further.

Among the topics for discussion on this year’s program are advances in the understanding of structural and functional aspects of neuronal regeneration. Also on the agenda are basic studies of defined neuronal circuits involved in motor control and sensory processing. The modulatory effects of internal states – such as emotional arousal and hunger – neural processing and behavior will also be discussed at the conference.

Since the inaugural meeting in the series, which was held at LMU in 2009, these annual conferences have been held in Munich and in Cambridge in alternate years. This year, researchers from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), as well as the local Helmholtz Centers and Max Planck Institutes, will also attend the event.
