LLOYDS BANKING GROUP ANNOUNCES THE LIVE WELL CAMPAIGN AS £3.7M SAVE THE CHILDREN SUCCESS DRAWS TO A CLOSE

19-1-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Lloyds Banking Group announces Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland as its Charity of the Year Partnership for 2013 and 2014.

First Ever UK-Wide Dementia Carers Programme
Chosen by a Group-wide colleague vote, the funds raised during the partnership will help the UK’s leading dementia charity to launch ‘Live Well’ – its first UK-wide dementia carers programme. This pioneering campaign will provide life-changing support for people living with dementia, their families and carers. The dementia charity will be Lloyds Banking Group’s Charity of the Year for the next two years.

£3.4m Funding for FAST Programme
The news follows the end of Lloyds Banking Group’s successful two year partnership with Save the Children, which raised over £3.4m for the charity to fund its Families and Schools Together (FAST) programme. FAST supports children in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged communities. This brings the total value of the partnership to £3.7m, which also includes the Group’s support for international emergencies and gifts in kind.

All money raised in Lloyds Banking Group’s Charity of the Year partnerships is through colleague fundraising. Some highlights from the Save the Children partnership include an Everest Base Camp trek, which raised £250,000. Colleagues also engaged with the partnership outside of traditional fundraising methods, which most recently included a one day takeover of 100 Save the Children charity shops raising £70,000.

In 2013 the Group hopes to emulate the successful Save the Children partnership with new partner Alzheimer’s Society. Through working together, all funds raised will allow the charity to provide much-needed support to launch the first ever UK-wide dementia carers programme. It will give 9,000 carers the information and skills they need to support their loved one to live in comfort. Every year, another 100,000 people develop the condition for which there is no cure.

Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as the next Charity of the Year for Lloyds Banking Group. One in three people over 65 will develop dementia. Money raised from the partnership will help thousands of people with dementia and their carers access the knowledge and support they need to have the best possible quality of life.”

Paul Turner, Group Community & Sustainable Business Director, said: “Our
colleagues voted overwhelmingly to partner with the Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland in support of their UK-wide dementia carers programme. Lloyds Banking Group is part of the Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia and is committed to understanding the needs of customers living with dementia to ensure they are given as much independence as possible while supporting their financial needs.

“Our work with Save the Children far exceeded our initial target of £2 million and we hope this legacy will continue to give over 12,000 children a better start in life and help us pave the way for our newest partnership.”

Douglas Rouse, Corporate Partnerships Director at Save the Children, said: “Our
partnership with Lloyds Banking Group has been a tremendous success and exceeded all of our expectations. The funds raised are enough to run 76 new FAST Programmes, supporting over 12,000 children in the most disadvantaged communities across the UK and helping them to fulfil their potential. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the Lloyds Banking Group colleagues who have tirelessly raised funds for us, and we wish you all the best for your new partnership.”

Runner-up charity, Leonard Cheshire Disability, received a donation of £10,000 from the Group.
