FRANKFURT, 07-Dec-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — The application phase for the KfW Construction Award 2019 is starting now. Until 20 February 2019, private property owners and joint building ventures that have carried out a new construction project or expanded, converted, modernised or revived an existing building in the last five years can apply. The submitted projects will be evaluated and awarded as a whole. The right balance of appealing architecture and appearance, good integration into the architectural surroundings, cost and energy efficiency, future-oriented and sustainable building methods, optimum use of space and land and individual comfort are deciding factors.
“One of KfW’s key promotional priorities is to create housing. The KfW Construction Award honours exemplary projects that combine successful architecture with cost and energy efficiency, accessibility and living comfort, and motivate other property owners to do the same,” says Dr Ingrid Hengster, Member of the Executive Board of KfW Group. She emphasises that “the aim is to provide impetus for sustainable private construction and identify trends for the future.”
The KfW Construction Award has a total prize fund of EUR 35,000. In the “new construction” and “modernising existing buildings” categories, the winners receive a total of EUR 30,000. The first prize in both categories is EUR 7,000. The second-place winners receive EUR 5,000, and the winners of the third-place prize receive EUR 3,000 each. The jury under the chairmanship of the architect, Professor Hans Kollhoff, may also award a special prize of EUR 5,000.
The awards will be presented at a formal awards ceremony on 23 May 2019 at KfW’s representative office in Berlin.
