(PRESS RELEASE) BRISBANE, 22-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Kapsch Group (VIE: KTCG), a leader in innovative transportation solutions, announces that Kapsch TrafficCom celebrates a significant achievement as a project in Queensland, Australia, secures the prestigious Connected and Automated Vehicle Award at the ITS Australia Awards 2024.

Partnering with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Kapsch TrafficCom played a pivotal role in deploying cutting-edge technology to enhance safety in Australian roadworks. The project showcased the effectiveness of portable Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) roadside stations in improving safety measures.

Matthew McLeish, Executive Vice President for the APAC region at Kapsch TrafficCom, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment, emphasizing the collaborative effort that drove the success. McLeish commented “I am proud of the team for delivering an award-winning project. The cooperation with TMR as well as with other project partners was an excellent experience and shows how collaboration can push the industry forward, and how our C-ITS technology makes traffic safer for all stakeholders.”

The readiness for broader implementation of this technology on state road networks was demonstrated through a C-ITS showcase organized by TMR in early May 2023. The showcase featured various safety-critical Connected Vehicle use cases, portraying the potential of C-ITS deployment in enhancing road safety. Queensland’s deployment includes a European compliant Security Credential Management System (SCMS) for message communications, with Kapsch TrafficCom contributing as a proud supplier.

This technology mirrors Kapsch TrafficCom’s ongoing rollout along thousands of kilometers of German highways, where similar roadside technology enhances safety in roadworks areas. Equipping mobile barrier boards with Intelligent Transport System Roadside Stations (IRS), the project ensures timely transmission of warning messages to approaching vehicles, thereby minimizing accident risks and improving overall road safety.
