The expansion, representing an increase of more than 30%, will result in the production of approximately 2 million OBUs annually. A total investment of EUR 1.3 million has been committed to the facility expansion.

OBUs are integral for enabling seamless, contactless toll collection, facilitating automatic toll payment without the need to stop at toll booths. This not only streamlines travel but also reduces emissions. Vienna’s facility has been a key player in OBU production, having manufactured over 50 million OBUs since 2008. Presently, the production team comprises around 130 skilled professionals who not only produce OBUs but also highly complex camera systems for traffic and toll management.

Kapsch TrafficCom has a longstanding history of OBU production, having commenced in the early 2000s. The company has supplied OBUs for Austria’s Go-Maut system and various other European and global clients. In 2008, production operations transitioned from the traditional Johann-Hoffmann Platz location in Meidling to the state-of-the-art, 6,000 m2 production facility in Vienna’s 23rd district. This facility has since been dedicated to the fully automated production of OBUs.
