(IN BRIEF) Kapsch TrafficCom has been awarded a tolling contract by APRR (Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône) to implement a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system on key autoroutes in France. This project involves installing nearly 30 gantries along approximately 430 kilometers of highway, aiming to improve road experience and facilitate smoother transit for motorists. The MLFF system, set to go live in 2026, will replace traditional toll plazas with automated toll collection points, enhancing efficiency for both light and heavy vehicles traveling on vital transit routes connecting Switzerland, Italy, and France.

(PRESS RELEASE) LYON/ VIENNA, 13-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Kapsch Group (VIE: KTCG), a leader in innovative transportation solutions, announces that Kapsch TrafficCom has been awarded a tolling contract by APRR (Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône), marking a significant advancement in the region’s transportation infrastructure.

Awarded in September 2023, the contract involves the implementation of a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system across the AREA network, covering major autoroutes A43, A41, and A49 east of Lyon. This project encompasses the installation of nearly 30 gantries along approximately 430 kilometers of highway, enhancing road experience and facilitating smoother transit for motorists.

Michael Weber, Head of Sales EMENA at Kapsch TrafficCom, emphasized the project’s importance, stating: “Together with our recent successes in Switzerland, Serbia and Spain, this project represents a significant step in the further development of tolling in Europe. It proves the quality of our tolling solutions, which are used globally, and also the added value of such systems for road traffic.”

The newly implemented MLFF system utilizes a hybrid model, replacing traditional toll plazas with automated toll collection points. Drivers will be detected upon entry using road cameras or DSRC tags and will conveniently pay the toll amount upon exit at toll plazas. This streamlined process ensures efficiency for both light and heavy goods vehicles. Notably, these highways serve as crucial transit routes connecting Switzerland, Italy, and France.

The final go-live date for this extensive MLFF system is set for 2026. This transition underscores APRR’s commitment to innovative transportation solutions, promising time savings and increased convenience for motorists traversing the region’s vital highway network.
