Arteixo, Spain, 21-Apr-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — The contribution adds to the one million euros already donated by the Group since 2009 for social projects carried out in the country by Entreculturas
Inditex is immediately contributing 200,000 euros to the emergency fund set up by the Entreculturas Foundation in Ecuador after a devastating earthquake hit the country’s north coast. With this emergency donation, Inditex is responding to the public cry for help recently put forth by Entreculturas. Inditex has been collaborating with Entreculturas for many years, specifically in Ecuador, and has donated one million euros to the various social programmes being developed by the Foundation in the country since 2009.
This new donation will contribute to the provision of basic necessities in affected areas, mainly medicine, water and food, and will help to construct emergency housing for those who have lost their homes, as well as the creation of temporary structures for educational use so that schools can resume their activity as soon as possible. According to Entreculturas, of the 44 schools they operate in areas affected by the earthquake, 21 of them are damaged, directly affecting 7,425 students.
In addition this emergency operation, the collaboration between Inditex and the Entreculturas Foundation is framed within the Collaboration Agreement signed by both organisations in 2001, in which Inditex has made contributions to improve the lives of over 900,000 people through education and job-creation projects in Latin America and Africa. In Ecuador specifically, Inditex regularly collaborates with Entreculturas and its local partners Fe y Alegría and Servicio Jesuita al Refugiado, serving vulnerable groups with education and job creation as a reference.
