Korsløkke Parken, a district in Denmark’s third largest city, is going to be rejuvenated over the next five years.
17-12-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — A total of EUR 4.7 million will be spent on revitalising Korsløkke Parken, a run-down area of social housing blocks.
The scheme will help breathe new life into the district, and will in particular create an attractive environment around the area’s social housing blocks, which are locally infamous for being run down and bland in their uniformity.
“Korsløkke Parken is by far the largest renovation project on the Danish island of Funen at the moment, and the first of this magnitude in Odense”, said Ole Mensbo, Area Regional Manager for Ramboll who is consultant on the project.
Development driven by the needs of local residents
The project includes the improvement and modernisation of homes and the surrounding area. Before it was initiated, local residents voted on the proposals – with a clear majority in favour of modernisation. Much of the planned work has been driven by requests from residents, with particularly strong demand for the installation of elevators.
Rebuilding will take place over a large geographical area to bring property up to a higher standard. During the construction process, the number of homes will be reduced from 1156 to 1028, to make way for larger and more attractive accommodation.
Green areas for social and physical activities
The renovation of the surrounding area includes redesigning the main arrival area, greener parking areas, new lighting, the construction of accessible trails and space for a range of activities such as play and exercise areas, and a centrally located five-storey communal building.
Besides from being consultant on the project, Ramboll will also be involved in the construction processes, the water and electrical systems, and project communication. The contractor is Fyns Almennyttige Boligselskab.
