Twelve organizations join forces to develop additive technologies for in situ manufacturing of spare aircraft parts
The scope of the project covers everything from the prediction of when and where the spare part shall be needed, to the capacity to perform aircraft maintenance and repair in situ using direct integrated digital manufacturing. RepAIR seeks to improve efficiency in repair processes, guaranteeing the fulfillment of all navigability requirements, particularly those aspects concerning maximum performance and responsibility. Findings resulting rom this project may also improve the performance and reliability of new parts.
According Jorge Pereira, Head of Aeronautics & Construction of the Research & Innovation group at Atos, “we at Atos believe that the time has come for a final push to additive technologies in manufacturing, and RepAIR is a great opportunity to bring all the advantages of this approach to the aeronautical industry. We have in the consortium a group of partners that are leaders in their respective fields, and we have the support of the European Commission and of key actors in the industry, so we expect that the results of the RepAIR project will mark a before and an after in the aeronautical maintenance in Europe and the United States”.
The consortium comprises twelve partners from Europe and the US, companies and leading international bodies whose activities are linked to Additive Manufacturing technology, and companies related to the aeronautical sector: Atos, the Metal-Processing Technology Institute –AIMME- and O´Gayar Consulting 2009 (Spain); APR SRL (Italy); Avantys Engineering, SLM Solutions, Lufthansa Technik and the University of Paderborn (Germany); Boeing (US); Cranfield University (United Kingdom); and the Danish Technology Institute -DTI- and Danish Aerotech (Denmark).
The project will be carried out over three years and is expected to present a direct application of the developments in demonstrations featuring real parts for specific aircrafts.
