PARIS, 09-Feb-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — AREVA TN signed a contract by end of 2016 with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) for the supply of a new TN®81 cask for the transportation and the storage of universal residues issued from the reprocessing of their spent fuels. The cask will be used for the return to ANSTO’s facility of universal vitrified residues issued from the Sellafield reprocessing plant and their subsequent storage at ANSTO’s facility at Lucas Heights, Australia.
This cask is the second TN®81 supplied by AREVA TN to ANSTO. The previous one was for the return in 2015 of intermediate-level waste issued from la Hague reprocessing plant, France, to Lucas Heights, and their storage on site.
The TN®81 cask is based on forged steel technology and can contain up to 28 universal residues canisters.
Lubi Dimitrovski, General Manager, Nuclear Operations at ANSTO said: “The TN®81 cask is an excellent example that demonstrates to the public of the simple and safe solution for the long term storage of the vitrified waste residues”.
Frédéric de Agostini, CEO of AREVA TN said: “This contract strengthens the long-term partnership with ANSTO in the field of back-end fuel management and illustrates the confidence of our Australian customer in our safe and competitive solutions for transportation and storage of universal canisters”.
