NIB to finance the construction of new energy-efficient school and sports facility in Laholm, Sweden

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 29-Apr-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — NIB signs 25-year loan facility of SEK 140 million (EUR 13.2 million) to finance the construction of a new primary school building and a sports facility in Glänninge with property developer Kommunfastigheter i Laholm AB.

The municipality of Laholm, located on the Swedish west coast, sees that it will require 1,150 additional school places by 2035 due to population growth in the region.

NIB’s loan will finance the construction of a new primary school building and an adjacent indoor sports facility in Glänninge. The Glänningeskolan will accommodate up to 475 students and will replace older school buildings.

Henrik Normann, NIB President & CEO comments: “The return on investment in high quality childhood education is substantial. The new school building will provide a more advanced learning environment that complies with Sweden’s national core curriculum. Further, the new sports facilities will improve the physical education offered in schools.”

Both the school and sports facility will be constructed according to the Passive House Institute Standard (Darmstadt) which is energy-efficient with minimized heat loss. The premises will have energy consumption levels 50% lower than the current Swedish regulatory building norm. Construction will be completed during 2019.

Kommunfastigheter i Laholm AB is a subsidiary of Laholmshem AB, which is 100% owned by the municipality. It owns and manages properties that are leased to municipal businesses and external tenants in Laholm.
