ANDRITZ Secures Major Thailand Order to Support Chemical Recovery and Green Electricity Production for NPS

With the new state-of-the-art technologies from ANDRITZ, NPS can produce renewable energy, ensuring stable electricity production for years to come.

(IN BRIEF) National Power Supply Public Company Limited, part of Double A Group, has selected ANDRITZ to supply a recovery boiler, black liquor evaporation plant and integrated ash re-crystallisation system for a new bioenergy power plant in Tha-Toom, Thailand. The systems will be installed at Double A Group’s pulp and paper mill to recover chemicals from black liquor, a residue from pulp production, while generating steam for renewable electricity production for the mill and the public grid. The order is valued in the high double-digit million euro range and was included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the first quarter of 2026. The recovery boiler will have a black liquor burning capacity of 3,300 metric tons of dry solids per day, while the evaporation plant will have a capacity of 727 tonnes per hour. The project also includes an ash re-crystallisation system capable of treating 220 tonnes per day of ash from the electrostatic precipitator. Start-up is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028, and the investment is expected to support renewable energy generation, circular mill operations, chemical recovery, flue gas cleaning and long-term stable electricity production.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 28-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — National Power Supply Public Company Limited, part of Double A Group, has selected ANDRITZ to supply key technologies for a new bioenergy power plant in Tha-Toom, Thailand, supporting the company’s expansion of renewable energy generation and circular production operations.

The project will be installed at Double A Group’s pulp and paper mill, where the new systems will recover chemicals from pulp production while generating renewable energy for both mill operations and the public electricity grid. The order, valued in the high double-digit million euro range, was included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the first quarter of 2026.

ANDRITZ will supply an advanced recovery boiler and black liquor evaporation plant designed to process black liquor, a residue generated during pulp production. Through this process, the recovery boiler will produce steam that can be used to generate green electricity. At the same time, chemicals recovered from the black liquor will be reused in pulp manufacturing, helping strengthen resource efficiency and circular operations at the mill.

Start-up of the recovery boiler and evaporation plant is planned for the second quarter of 2028.

Mr. Chainoi Puenkosoom, Board of Directors at NPS, said the company was highly impressed with the solution presented by ANDRITZ. He noted that the implementation of ANDRITZ technologies will provide NPS with a proven, reliable and cost-effective platform for highly efficient renewable power production.

The scope of supply includes a recovery boiler with a black liquor burning capacity of 3,300 metric tons of dry solids per day. The boiler is designed for long operating periods, high efficiency and significant renewable energy production. It will also include an electrostatic precipitator for efficient flue gas cleaning, as well as automation and digitalisation solutions to support optimised operations.

ANDRITZ will also deliver an energy-efficient black liquor evaporation plant with a capacity of 727 tonnes per hour. The plant will feature easy-to-clean lamella heating surfaces, designed to support high availability, simple operation and the production of superior condensate for use in other mill departments. Comprehensive automation and digitalisation solutions will also be integrated into the evaporation plant.

In addition, the project includes an integrated ash re-crystallisation system with the capacity to treat 220 tonnes per day of ash from the electrostatic precipitator. The system is designed to reduce chloride and potassium content in the ash while recovering sodium and sulfate for reuse in the process. ANDRITZ ash re-crystallisation systems have already been implemented successfully at several pulp mills across Asia.

NPS is a Thailand-based power generation company producing electricity, renewable energy and steam. The company has placed clean energy use and environmentally responsible practices at the centre of its operations.

With the new ANDRITZ technologies, NPS will be able to increase renewable energy production while supporting stable electricity generation for years to come. The project also reinforces the role of advanced recovery and evaporation technologies in helping pulp and paper producers improve energy efficiency, recover valuable process chemicals and reduce environmental impact.

The ANDRITZ scope of supply comprises:

  • A recovery boiler with a black liquor burning capacity of 3,300 metric tons of dry solids per day. Designed for long operating periods and high efficiency, it enables significant renewable energy production. The boiler includes an electrostatic precipitator for efficient flue gas cleaning as well as automation and digitalization solutions for optimized operation.
  • An energy-efficient black liquor evaporation plant with a capacity of 727 t/h. The plant features easy-to-clean lamella heating surfaces, ensuring high availability, superior condensate for use in other mill departments, and easy operation. It is equipped with comprehensive automation and digitalization solutions.
  • An integrated ash re-crystallization (ARC) system with a capacity to treat 220 t/d of ash from the electrostatic precipitator. The system reduces the ash’s chloride and potassium content while recovering sodium and sulfate for reuse in the process. ANDRITZ ARC systems have been successfully implemented at several pulp mills in Asia.

NPS is a Thailand-based power generation company that produces electricity, renewable energy, and steam. The company is committed to clean energy use and environmentally friendly practices.
