(PRESS RELEASE) SALZGITTER, 29-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, a subsidiary of Salzgitter AG, has officially opened its new Training and Communication Center in Ilsenburg, creating a modern hub for vocational training, employee qualification and professional exchange in the Harz region. The new facility, built on an area of around 2,000 square meters, represents an investment of several million euros and is designed to support the development of tomorrow’s skilled workforce.

The inauguration took place on Friday in the presence of Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister President Sven Schulze, along with representatives from politics and business. The new center marks a major investment in young talent, industrial skills and the long-term competitiveness of Ilsenburg as an industrial location.

The modern training workshop will be used to train young professionals and support the ongoing qualification of employees at Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH. It will play a particularly important role in the training of industrial mechanics, with the company offering up to twelve places each year in this field, alongside other apprenticeship opportunities.

Beyond its internal training function, the facility will also support the wider regional economy. From autumn, companies in the Harz region will be able to use the training workshop to train their own skilled workers in cooperation with Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH. This approach is intended to strengthen the availability of qualified specialists across the region and create broader career opportunities for young people.

Following the official opening, the building will be brought into operation step by step, allowing current trainees to begin benefiting from the improved training environment. The center combines practical, hands-on learning with modern qualification methods, including digital training formats and IT-based instruction. Practice-oriented training will remain a core part of the concept, ensuring that trainees develop both technical knowledge and applied industrial skills.

With the investment, Salzgitter AG and Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH are reinforcing their commitment to sustainable vocational training and career development within the Salzgitter Group. The project also supports the broader goal of securing skilled personnel for the Harz region at a time when demographic change and industrial transformation are increasing the need for qualified workers.

The construction of the new Training and Communication Center was supported by funding from the federal and state governments, reflecting a shared commitment from industry and public authorities to the future of Ilsenburg as an industrial location.

Sven Schulze, Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt, described the center as a flagship project for qualified training in the Harz region. He said the state was pleased to contribute to the project and sees the facility as an opportunity for young people to make the best possible start to their careers. He also emphasized that investment in training future skilled personnel is particularly important for Germany’s business locations in light of demographic change.

Beatrice Fiege, Managing Director Human Resources at Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, said the new center sends a strong signal for future-oriented, high-quality training and demonstrates a clear commitment to Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH. She noted that the investment contributes to future viability and helps secure skilled professionals in the Harz region, adding that well-trained specialists are essential for addressing major challenges such as the energy transition and industrial transformation.

Birgit Dietze, Head of Human Resources at Salzgitter AG, said the new center reflects the industry’s shift toward greater digitalization and modern qualifications. She described it as an important building block in preparing young people for the demands of the future and said the project shows what can be achieved when entrepreneurial courage, regional responsibility and political support work together.
