Lenzing Invests in New ANDRITZ Debarking and Chipping Technology for Dissolving Pulp Production

(IN BRIEF) Lenzing AG has selected ANDRITZ to supply a complete debarking and chipping line for its pulp mill in Austria. The new line is scheduled to start up in the fourth quarter of 2027 and will be capable of processing 400 m³ of logs per hour. The system will include a horizontally fed HHQ-Chipper with ANDRITZ’s TurnKnife system, a frequency converter to optimise chipper speed, a hydrostatically supported debarking drum, efficient log washing, and complete automation, electrification and instrumentation. The order reinforces the long-standing relationship between Lenzing and ANDRITZ, which previously supplied a debarking and chipping line to Lenzing in 2003. The new delivery will include ANDRITZ’s 200th HHQ-Chipper.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 15-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Lenzing AG has awarded international technology group ANDRITZ an order to supply a complete debarking and chipping line for its pulp mill in Austria.

The new line is scheduled to start up in the fourth quarter of 2027 and will be designed to process 400 m³ of logs per hour.

The system will include a horizontally fed HHQ-Chipper equipped with ANDRITZ’s advanced TurnKnife system. Combined with a frequency converter to optimise the chipper’s rotational speed, the technology is designed to improve the efficient use of wood raw material, reduce wood losses and deliver consistently high chip quality.

The line will also feature a hydrostatically supported debarking drum developed for the demanding requirements of dissolving pulp production, where a high debarking degree is essential. Efficient log washing will be used to remove loose silica from the logs before further processing.

ANDRITZ’s scope of supply also includes a complete automation, electrification and instrumentation package. The company will provide detailed engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning for the new line.

Dr Rolf Yaldez, Mill Manager at Lenzing, said the order builds on the long-standing partnership between the two companies.

The order further strengthens the established business relationship between Lenzing and ANDRITZ. In 2003, ANDRITZ supplied Lenzing with a complete debarking and chipping line that included one of the first horizontally fed HHQ-Chippers.

The latest delivery will include ANDRITZ’s 200th HHQ-Chipper, marking a notable milestone for the technology.

The value of the order has not been disclosed. It was included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the first quarter of 2026.
