AFRY Partners with Alliance to Advance Tampere Tramway Project’s Third Phase

(IN BRIEF) Finnish Tampere Tramway Ltd., along with the City of Tampere and the Municipality of Pirkkala, has enlisted AFRY as a key participant in an alliance dedicated to progressing the third phase of the Tampere tram network expansion. AFRY, in collaboration with YIT, NRC, Sweco, and the clients, will jointly oversee the development phase of the project, with implementation planning set to commence in October 2023. This phase encompasses street plans for tram routes, implementation plans from Linnainmaa to Suuppa, and a target construction cost. (PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 6-Oct-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Finnish Tampere Tramway Ltd., the City of Tampere, and the Municipality of Pirkkala, have appointed AFRY as part of an alliance to deliver on the third stage of the Tampere tram network extension, engaging several of AFRY’s disciplines.

AFRY, together with YIT, NRC and Sweco, and the clients, will form an alliance, which is responsible for the development phase of the third stage of the Tampere tramway project. The implementation planning will commence in October 2023.

The project includes street plans for the tram streets, an implementation plan from Linnainmaa, Tampere, to Suuppa, Pirkkala, and a target cost of construction.

AFRY has extensive and diverse experience in the Tampere tram project, as AFRY has been involved in this unique urban development project since 2015, bringing a new form of public transportation to Tampere.

The starting point for the implementation planning of the Pirkkala–Linnainmaa tramway is the approved project plan’s investment cost estimate of EUR 335 million. The development phase budget is EUR 12.5 million, of which AFRY’s share is approximately one third. The project is estimated to be completed in a year. At the end of the development phase, the alliance will establish the binding target cost for the construction of the tramway.
