Scania Expands Defence Portfolio with Protected Cab Built Within Its Modular Vehicle System

(IN BRIEF) Scania has introduced a new modular protected cab at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, expanding its defence offering with a solution designed for resilient logistics, crew protection and mission-critical transport operations. Built within Scania’s existing modular system, the protected cab allows defence customers to add ballistic and blast protection without shifting to a separate vehicle platform. The solution supports 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 configurations, is compliant with STANAG 4569 Level 1–3 and is designed to meet strategic mobility requirements including the UIC GA train tunnel profile. By retaining commonality with Scania’s standard production, spare parts, maintenance and service structures, the protected cab is intended to improve operational availability and lifecycle efficiency. The launch strengthens Scania’s position in defence logistics and total defence transport, building on more than a century of experience supplying vehicles, engines and related solutions to NATO countries and allied nations.

(PRESS RELEASE) SÖDERTÄLJE, 15-Jun-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Scania is expanding its defence portfolio with the launch of a modular protected cab, introduced at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris. Developed for demanding defence logistics and mission-critical transport operations, the new protected cab combines crew protection, vehicle mobility and operational availability within Scania’s established modular system.

Presented publicly for the first time at Eurosatory 2026, the protected cab allows defence customers to specify vehicles with enhanced protection while remaining within the Scania vehicle architecture. The solution represents a new capability level in Scania’s modular system and supports the company’s continued focus on durable, adaptable and serviceable transport solutions for modern defence and total defence needs.

Stefano Fedel, Head of Scania Commercial, said defence logistics and transport resilience are becoming increasingly important for armed forces and societies in Europe and other regions. He said the protected cab brings together protection and mission capability with the modularity, reliability and support structures already proven across Scania’s global transport ecosystem.

Transport capability plays a central role in defence operations, where vehicles must support critical logistics, operate in difficult environments and remain available over long service lives. The protected cab has been developed for missions where crews need to work safely and effectively while the vehicle continues to perform in demanding terrain, difficult weather conditions and continuous operational use.

The cab environment is designed to support driver alertness, manoeuvrability and control in complex operational situations. It improves crew survivability through ballistic and blast protection features, while preserving visibility, ergonomics and the familiar Scania driving environment. The cab can also be configured for the integration of mission-specific systems, equipment and bodywork.

Protection levels can be adapted to operational requirements and mission profiles, with the solution fully compliant with STANAG 4569 Level 1–3. Its modular design allows customers to configure vehicles according to different mission needs and operational phases, supporting both training use and operational readiness within the same vehicle architecture.

The protected cab is available for 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 configurations and is designed to meet strategic mobility requirements, including the UIC GA train tunnel profile. This gives defence customers greater flexibility over time and supports more efficient use of protected vehicle resources.

By maintaining commonality across fleets, driver environments, components and maintenance systems, the solution allows customers to adapt vehicles for a range of missions without moving away from Scania’s core characteristics, including robustness, driver focus and operational efficiency.

Sara Forsberg, CTO and Head of Scania R&D, said the new modular protected cab is not a separate platform outside the Scania system. She said it has been developed according to the same principles that guide Scania’s approach to modularity, uptime and operational efficiency, giving customers a scalable and adaptable solution with strong long-term support.

The truck fitted with the protected cab is built within Scania’s standard modular and production system. The cab is manufactured in Sweden and integrated into Scania’s regular production flow, with final vehicle assembly taking place alongside other defence truck variants at the company’s production facilities.

Because the solution is based on the same modular architecture and industrial processes as the wider Scania product portfolio, customers benefit from familiar driver ergonomics, common interfaces, shared spare parts and established service and support structures throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

Scania’s use of common components and modular systems means defence vehicles can be supported by existing service, parts and maintenance structures. This helps strengthen operational availability and manage lifecycle costs, whether vehicles are used in domestic defence operations, deployed environments or long-term fleet programmes.

Scania has supplied defence-related vehicles and solutions for more than a century and currently provides defence trucks, engines and related solutions to several NATO countries and allied nations. With the launch of the modular protected cab, the company is further strengthening its role as a long-term transport partner for customers requiring reliable vehicles capable of performing in demanding operations over extended service lives.

Eurosatory 2026 provides Scania with an international platform to present the new solution to defence customers, partners and industry stakeholders. The modular protected cab will be showcased as a model during the event in Paris.

With the protected cab, Scania combines protection, modularity, industrial integration and lifecycle support in a single solution designed for demanding defence operations and long-term operational performance.
