(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 16-Jun-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is providing RON 300 million, equivalent to €57 million, in financing to Delgaz Grid SA, a Romanian electricity and natural gas distribution company and part of the E.ON Group.

The loan will support the modernisation and digitalisation of Delgaz Grid’s electricity distribution network in north-eastern Romania. The financing will cover part of the company’s 2026-2030 capital expenditure programme, including investments in network upgrades and the rollout of smart meters.

The EBRD financing forms part of a larger RON 3 billion, equivalent to €573 million, syndicated facility arranged together with six commercial banks. The package is designed to support continued investment in Romania’s electricity distribution infrastructure and strengthen the reliability of the country’s energy system.

Delgaz Grid is a long-standing private-sector client of the EBRD and one of Romania’s important distribution system operators. The EBRD’s participation reinforces its partnership with the company and supports further upgrades to essential energy infrastructure in the country.

The planned investments are expected to reduce electricity interruptions and network losses, while improving service reliability for customers. They will also help prepare the network for the integration of additional renewable energy capacity, supporting Romania’s renewable energy targets for 2030.

Delgaz Grid operates electricity and natural gas distribution networks in northern Romania. The company serves approximately 1.6 million electricity customers and more than 2 million natural gas customers. As part of the E.ON Group, Delgaz Grid is connected to one of Europe’s largest energy network operators, serving around 47 million customers.

The EBRD remains a major institutional investor in Romania. To date, the Bank has invested more than €12.5 billion across 594 projects in the country.
