(NEWS) LONDON, 26-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Quail Digital has introduced its Pro12 retail headset system for the German market, positioning the technology as a voice-led platform designed to help store teams communicate more efficiently, access operational information faster and improve shop-floor coordination, according to their official press release published today on EuropaWire.

The London-based digital headset maker said the system is built around an AI-powered “store brain” that connects and organises store data, decision-making tools and operational alerts, allowing retail employees to retrieve information through voice commands while remaining focused on customers and in-store tasks. According to the company’s announcement, the platform can support real-time checks on stock availability, product locations, pricing, service requests and operational alerts.

The launch comes as Germany’s retail sector continues to face a mixed operating environment. HDE, Germany’s retail association, expects the country’s retail industry to record 2% nominal revenue growth in 2026, equivalent to only 0.5% growth after adjusting for inflation, Reuters reported in February. That points to a market where retailers are still under pressure to protect margins, improve productivity and manage cautious consumer demand.

At the same time, Germany’s retail landscape is being reshaped by e-commerce and marketplace growth. HDE’s Online Monitor 2025 reported that German online retail growth accelerated again in 2024, rising 3.8%, while online sales increased their share of total retail to 13.4%. The report also found that online marketplaces accounted for 57% of German online retail sales, up from 54% a year earlier, underlining the growing competitive pressure on physical stores to become more efficient, better connected and more responsive.

Against that backdrop, Quail Digital’s Pro12 system is being positioned not simply as a staff communication device, but as part of a wider move toward AI-supported store operations, where employees can access real-time information without leaving the shop floor. The company said the Pro12 system was previewed to the European retail sector at EuroShop 2026 in Düsseldorf earlier this year and combines speech recognition, secure communications, operational alerts and real-time collaboration in one integrated retail headset system.

AI is also becoming more visible across European retail operations, moving beyond online personalisation into inventory planning, content creation, pricing, store analytics and operational decision-making. Bitkom’s 2026 white paper on AI trends in e-commerce describes practical retail applications ranging from automated decision-making and personalised customer engagement to agentic shopping, AI benchmarking and the intelligent use of location data.

Recent developments in European retail also show how AI is being used to reduce costs and accelerate decision-making. Reuters reported in May that Polish fashion retailer LPP, owner of Reserved and Sinsay, is using AI to track trends, generate marketing visuals and analyse location data for store expansion, with the company saying AI has helped shorten its clothing design cycle and lower content production costs. While that example is outside Germany, it reflects a broader European retail trend toward using AI for operational efficiency as well as customer-facing services.

Tom Downes, CEO of Quail Digital, said voice technology can help store staff interact with digital systems without interrupting customer engagement. He said the system is intended to reduce unnecessary walking, repeated tasks, radio traffic and delays in responding to customers, while helping retailers improve both efficiency and service levels.

The company is presenting Pro12 as part of a broader “one device” strategy for connected retail environments, where store colleagues can use a single wearable platform for communication, alerts, AI-driven information access and team collaboration. Quail Digital said this approach is becoming more relevant as retailers invest in connected store technologies and AI-enabled operations.

Alongside Pro12, Quail Digital is also promoting Quail Connect, a lighter communication system aimed at smaller retail formats, including convenience retailers, independent shops and stores with up to six users. The company said the platform is intended to be easy to install, low maintenance and scalable as stores grow.

Security is also a central part of the company’s positioning for the Pro12 system. Quail Digital said retailers in Europe are facing growing pressure from retail crime, citing the European Retail Crime Survey by the European Retailers Association, which projects retail crime costs in the region at €50 billion annually. The company also cited figures from the German Retail Association, HDE, reporting a 20% increase in shoplifting incidents in Germany over the past year.

Downes said German retailers are placing greater emphasis on secure infrastructure and controlled communication environments. He added that Pro12 has been designed as a professional retail system with secure communications at its core, allowing retailers to avoid reliance on consumer-grade devices or unsecured applications.

The launch reflects a wider shift in retail operations toward AI-supported tools that can help store employees access information more quickly while maintaining customer service standards. For German retailers managing large store estates, rising operating pressures, stronger online competition and security concerns, Quail Digital is positioning Pro12 as a system aimed at improving both efficiency and control on the shop floor.
