Nokia and Taiwan Mobile Strengthen Partnership to Improve 5G Performance, Automation and Sustainability

(IN BRIEF) Nokia has signed a 5G expansion agreement with Taiwan Mobile to support the operator’s move towards AI-native mobile networks. The partnership will see Nokia deploy its latest AirScale portfolio, including next-generation baseband and radio solutions, alongside AI-driven software to improve network performance, automation, resilience and energy efficiency. The collaboration focuses on four areas: AI-powered network intelligence, infrastructure for AI-driven traffic, AI-based energy optimisation and AI-enabled network resilience. Nokia will provide capabilities including Predictive Hardware Analytics, MantaRay SON, advanced radios and next-generation baseband solutions. The upgrade will help Taiwan Mobile expand 5G capacity, improve uplink performance, enhance spectrum efficiency and support new services such as network slicing and RedCap. It will also support Taiwan Mobile’s sustainability goals by reducing energy consumption through traffic-aware optimisation and proactive power savings.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 14-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia has signed a 5G expansion agreement with Taiwan Mobile to support the operator’s transition towards AI-native mobile networks across Taiwan.

The agreement extends the long-standing partnership between the two companies and reinforces Nokia’s role in helping Taiwan Mobile improve network performance, automation, resilience and sustainability.

As part of the deal, Nokia will deploy its latest AirScale portfolio, including next-generation baseband and radio solutions, together with advanced software capabilities. These technologies will enhance Taiwan Mobile’s existing network infrastructure and support the launch of new 5G services and monetisation opportunities.

The collaboration is centred on the use of artificial intelligence across mobile network operations. Nokia and Taiwan Mobile aim to build highly automated, resilient and energy-efficient networks capable of supporting growing AI-driven traffic and future digital services.

Mark Atkinson, Head of Radio Access Networks at Nokia, said the agreement will help Taiwan Mobile accelerate its move towards AI-native networks.

“Our advanced radio and baseband solutions and AI-driven software deliver intelligent automation, enhanced performance and improved energy efficiency, setting the foundation for 5G-Advanced and beyond,” said Atkinson.

He added that the future-ready network will enable Taiwan Mobile to handle rising volumes of AI traffic, introduce new services and continue progressing towards its sustainability targets.

The deployment will introduce AI-driven capabilities across four key areas: network intelligence, infrastructure, energy management and resilience.

For network intelligence, Nokia will provide AI-powered software to enable real-time automation, predictive analytics and closed-loop network assurance. The agreement includes Nokia’s Predictive Hardware Analytics service and MantaRay SON, its self-organising networks solution, which uses AI algorithms to automate operations and improve network performance.

For infrastructure, Nokia’s next-generation baseband and advanced radio solutions will increase network capacity and improve uplink performance. These upgrades are designed to support new traffic patterns created by AI applications while improving user experience.

For sustainability, Nokia will deploy AI-powered energy management algorithms that support traffic-aware optimisation and proactive power savings. These capabilities are intended to help Taiwan Mobile reduce energy consumption and meet its ESG targets.

For resilience, AI-enabled self-healing and traffic steering features will help strengthen network continuity. The network will be able to adapt dynamically to changing conditions and maintain services, including in extreme scenarios.

Jamie Lin, President of Taiwan Mobile, said the collaboration with Nokia is a key part of the operator’s strategy to build a high-performance, resilient and sustainable network for its expanding Telco+Tech businesses.

“By integrating AI across our network for better energy optimization, resilience and service innovation, we are creating a platform that supports next-generation applications delivered with industry leading experiences for our customers,” said Lin.

He added that the long-term partnership supports Taiwan Mobile’s ambition to strengthen its leadership in the AI era and unlock new growth opportunities.

The expanded 5G deployment will increase capacity and optimise network performance through advanced radios and next-generation baseband solutions. The upgrades will support higher throughput, better spectrum efficiency and premium user experiences.

At the same time, AI-driven network management and automation tools will enable predictive maintenance, reduce operational complexity and lower total cost of ownership.

The agreement will also support new 5G capabilities, including network slicing and RedCap, helping Taiwan Mobile expand its service offerings and address emerging enterprise and consumer use cases.

Nokia’s energy-efficient hardware, combined with AI-powered software, will support Taiwan Mobile’s ambition to build a lower-carbon and more efficient network while improving operational performance over the long term.
