(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 16-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Metso has expanded its global bulk material handling footprint with the opening of a new regional hub in Cape Town, South Africa, inaugurated on April 15, 2026. The facility is designed to enhance engineering capabilities and provide access to advanced automation solutions for customers operating in bulk material handling and port operations across the African continent.

The new Cape Town hub represents a key milestone in Metso’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in high-growth markets. By establishing a fully operational team within the same time zone as its regional customers, the company aims to deliver faster technical support, improved responsiveness, and closer alignment with operational requirements.

The expansion further deepens Metso’s long-standing relationships in Southern Africa, where the company has built a significant installed base of equipment. Among its key partners is Transnet, which manages the country’s port, rail, and pipeline networks. The new hub enables more localized technical support, helping to enhance system reliability and performance for such critical infrastructure operators.

Jabu Mdaki, Chief Executive of Transnet Port Terminals, highlighted that closer access to technical expertise supports more efficient and sustainable operations. The strengthened collaboration is expected to improve maintenance, performance, and overall service delivery.

Ian Barnard, President of Metso’s Africa Market Area, emphasized the importance of expanding regional capabilities as demand for bulk material handling solutions continues to grow across Africa. He noted that Metso’s established reputation and strong industry partnerships position the company well to support the region’s development.

The Cape Town facility is staffed by approximately 60 employees, providing a full range of services including lifecycle support, system upgrades, and technical assistance. Beyond direct employment, the hub contributes to the local economy through partnerships with regional suppliers, consultants, and contractors.

In addition to supporting customer operations, the hub plays a role in developing local expertise by fostering skills growth and offering opportunities for young professionals. This aligns with Metso’s objective of strengthening industrial capabilities and supporting workforce development in the region.

The new center builds on Metso’s extensive experience in bulk material handling, with over a century of industry expertise and thousands of installations worldwide. It also complements the company’s ongoing investments in digitalization and automation, including the recent acquisition of MRA Automation, which enhances its ability to deliver advanced technological solutions.

Metso’s portfolio in bulk material handling includes a wide range of equipment such as conveyors, feeders, stackers, reclaimers, ship loaders, and smart automation systems. These solutions are designed to support customers throughout the full lifecycle of their operations, enabling improved efficiency, reliability, and performance.

With the launch of the Cape Town hub, Metso reinforces its commitment to supporting the evolving needs of the African market while advancing its global strategy in bulk material handling and industrial services.
