Fincantieri Secures Major Cruise Ship Order with Princess Cruises for Three LNG Powered Voyager Class Vessels

(IN BRIEF) Fincantieri has signed a major agreement with Princess Cruises to build three LNG-powered Voyager-class cruise ships, with deliveries scheduled between 2035 and 2039. The vessels, each capable of carrying 4,700 guests, will be constructed at the Monfalcone shipyard and are designed to reduce emissions through the use of liquefied natural gas. The deal strengthens a long-standing partnership between the two companies and supports Fincantieri’s long-term production pipeline. The new ships will combine sustainable technology with enhanced onboard experiences, reflecting evolving customer expectations and the cruise industry’s shift toward more environmentally responsible operations.

(PRESS RELEASE) TRIESTE, 16-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Fincantieri has entered into a new agreement with Princess Cruises for the construction of three next-generation Voyager-class cruise ships powered by liquefied natural gas. The contract was signed during the Seatrade Cruise Global, reinforcing the long-standing collaboration between the two companies.

The vessels will be constructed at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, with deliveries planned for 2035, 2038, and 2039. The agreement represents a significant addition to Fincantieri’s order book, ensuring long-term production continuity and supporting the company’s strategic development plans within the cruise sector.

Each of the new ships will feature a gross tonnage of approximately 183,000 tons and will be capable of accommodating up to 4,700 passengers. Powered primarily by LNG, the vessels are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize environmental impact compared to conventional marine fuels, aligning with the industry’s broader push toward cleaner propulsion technologies.

Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Fincantieri, noted that the agreement further strengthens the partnership with Princess Cruises while providing long-term visibility for the company’s shipbuilding operations, particularly at the Monfalcone facility. He emphasized that the project aligns with Fincantieri’s industrial strategy and highlights its expertise in developing advanced, more sustainable cruise vessels.

From the cruise operator’s perspective, the Voyager-class ships are expected to introduce a refreshed onboard experience while maintaining the brand’s established strengths. Gus Antorcha, President of Princess Cruises, explained that the design of the new vessels is informed by extensive research into guest preferences, aiming to balance familiar features with new concepts and enhancements.

The ships are expected to offer a wide range of upgraded amenities, including refined dining options, enhanced entertainment offerings, redesigned public spaces, and improved leisure environments such as pool areas. These developments are intended to appeal both to returning guests and to new audiences seeking modern cruise experiences.

This latest order builds on a long history of collaboration between Fincantieri and Princess Cruises. Over the past 35 years, the Monfalcone shipyard has delivered 21 vessels for the cruise line, including the recently completed Sphere-class ships Sun Princess in 2024 and Star Princess in 2025.

With the addition of the Voyager-class ships, the partnership continues to evolve, combining Fincantieri’s shipbuilding capabilities with Princess Cruises’ focus on guest experience and innovation, while also advancing the use of lower-emission technologies within the cruise industry.
